CampusRN2RN

A CampusRN Scholarship Program finalist for the Pacific region:

The nurse must be compassionate, understanding, empathetic, confidant, caring and hardworking. A nurse must use these qualities to serve patients as well as educate them and advocate on their behalf. Most importantly of all a nurse should have the integrity to never stop reaching for these ideals. My mother, an RN and CNS, has always been an embodiment of these traits and I am proud to be following in her footsteps.

I aspire to complete the Second Career and Nursing program at Azusa Pacific University by the year 2012. I will graduate with a BSN and MSN while meeting my presented challenges with an impressive GPA. With my education from the accelerated program I will become a registered nurse and a nurse practitioner. I plan to specialize in womenā?Ts health. I have always been a firm believer in the idea that women tend to be the centers of their household and if a womanā?Ts health is cared for then the whole familyā?Ts will be improved. As a nurse I will educate women in preventive care for both themselves and their families.

As a nurse I want to work with underserved populations. I grew up in a working class area. I have seen firsthand what happens to people who are unable to receive the proper care they need and are entitled to. People in these or similar low income areas could benefit from basic health and disease prevention education. I would like to take full advantage of my education and use it to provide this necessary service to my community and those like it.

I would like to advance my education beyond the MSN and obtain a DNP and a PhD in nursing. I want to do this not only so I can follow my passion for teaching, but to add to my own research to the scholarly community. This way I can not only give back to my own community but provide others with the tools to give back to theirs.

I believe that I am a qualified candidate for this scholarship because I have the qualities that would make a good nurse. This scholarship would help me to achieve my goals of helping women be healthier and as a result helping their families become healthier as well. By being awarded this scholarship I will be able to give back to both my residential community as well as the scholastic community and uphold the reputation and noble profession of nursing.
