A CampusRN Scholarship Program finalist for the Pacific region:

Nursing is a dynamic profession. It is always progressing with new concepts, techniques, and solutions. Through the Early Entry into Nursing and Advanced Practice (EENAP), an accelerated BSN Program at Azusa Pacific University, I have been learning nursing fundamentals, techniques and solutions during patient care, and many other new concepts which allowed me to actively provide patient care at Kaiser Permanente as well as appropriate health services to the elderly at Christ Lutheran Church.

As a minority nurse and an immigrant in this country, I desire to serve people who are in need of health care in my community after completing the EENAP program. Many Chinese immigrants, minorities, and people from low-income families in my community, do not speak fluent English. Since hospitals and clinics are not necessarily the most pleasant places for patients, they would feel more comfortable if nurses could communicate with them in their native languages. In addition, many immigrants who come from under developed countries have limited knowledge of health and disease control and preventions. They are more susceptible to diseases as opposed to those who have been exposed to this information. I would like to share my knowledge with new immigrants and the less informed people in my community. I am hoping that my involvement in disease prevention and health-care enhancement activities will improve their health and my fluency in Chinese can better communicate with Chinese patients. In the distant future, I envision myself to become a leader in the field and a nursing instructor. One of my long-term goals is to prepare more qualified nurses in this respected workforce.

Life expectancy has grown in America and will continue to grow in the near future. As elderly population increases, our community demands more qualified nurses. It takes a few more semesters of hard academic work and much more dedication to become a good registered nurse. The CampusRN Nurse Scholarship Program will definitely provide financial assistance during my accelerated BSN program.
